    A few minutes from the Lido is Tortoreto Alto, an enchanting medieval village located at 227 meters above sea level. Its squares, arches, towers and narrow brick streets tell a thousand-year-old story, while its natural balconies offer breathtaking views of the coast, valleys and mountains.

    What to see in Atri

Protagonist of important historical events, the city is rich in numerous monuments with particular architectural characteristics that make this city an important tourist destination: not to be missed are the Piazza Duomo, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, the Ducal Palace and many other monuments of considerable historical and artistic importance.

    What to see in Campli

    Moving towards Teramo you can reach the charming town of Campli located on a hill between the valleys of the Fiumicino and Siccagno streams. Rich in ancient architectural monuments including an important necropolis from the Iron Age and some burials, you can also admire the fourteenth-century churches of San Nicola and San Francesco. The town is dominated by the Balascio fortress founded around the year one thousand.

    What to see in Castelli

    At the foot of the Gran Sasso stands Castelli, the "city of ceramics" where for centuries the fine art of working this noble material has been handed down from father to son. Home of famous master ceramists who served the kings of Naples and the princely houses of Rome, in Castelli you can visit numerous artisan workshops where you can also make excellent purchases.

    What to see in Civitella

    Civitella del Tronto, a jewel of Abruzzo and a member of "The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy", stands at 645 meters in the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park, on the border with the Marche. Famous for its imposing fortress, one of the largest in Italy, over 500 meters long, it was the scene of memorable sieges and the last bastion of the Bourbon Kingdom in 1861.

    The village offers a charming historic center, with medieval houses, churches such as San Francesco and San Lorenzo, and the convent of Santa Maria dei Lumi. To the west, the Monti Gemelli and the Gole del Salinello offer breathtaking landscapes and wild scenery, such as the suggestive cave of the hermitage of Sant'Angelo. A place where history and nature blend in perfect harmony.

    What to see in Colonnella

    Colonnella (303m.) is located in a hilly area, very close to Martinsicuro, the staircase that leads to the historic center is unique, a characteristic element of the town. Among the oldest buildings we remember the Volpi, Marzi, Pardi and Grilli palaces. Also important is the Town Hall, on the facade you can still see the plaque to Giordano Bruno, placed in 1914.

    To see: the Church of Saints Cipriano and Giustina (around 1795-1815) and the Clock Tower (the construction date of which is not known with certainty, what is certain is that in 1837 the construction of a new clock was commissioned by the Municipal Administration).

    What to see in Teramo

    Teramo, the capital of Abruzzo, extends over a hilly area between the Gran Sasso and the Adriatic coast, surrounded by vineyards and olive groves. The symbol of the city is the Basilica Cathedral (1158), with its Romanesque-Gothic façade and the precious silver antependium by Nicola da Guardiagrele. Not far away, the Roman Theater from the 1st century BC and the remains of the Amphitheater tell the thousand-year history of the city.

    Also worth a visit are the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie, the Castello della Monica and the ancient churches of San Getulio and Sant’Anna. Teramo also boasts the Collurania Observatory, where the asteroid Interamnia was discovered, and hosts the famous Coppa Interamnia, an international handball event. A place that combines culture, history and tradition.

    Sanctuary of San Gabriele dell’Addolorata

    San Gabriele dell’Addolorata (Francesco Possenti) is one of the most popular saints in the world. His sanctuary, set like a pearl in the beautiful setting of the Gran Sasso Teramo, is visited every year by about two million pilgrims. The construction of the first basilica, together with that of the convent, was begun in 1216 and restored in 1590. The ancient church was then enlarged in 1908, in 1920 the dome was embellished and in 1929 it was enriched with the elegant facade. The new sanctuary, designed in the sixties and built in the seventies, extends its arms to the four cardinal points and in its section recalls the shape of a large ship, symbol of the church on the move. 90 meters long and 30 meters wide, the grandiose sanctuary in white concrete and steel can hold 12,000 people.

    National and Natural Parks

    A system of four parks with the highest peaks of the Apennines, where you can ski in the southern sun and sometimes have a view of the sea. We encounter a dense network of oases and natural reserves where chamois, deer, golden eagles live, and in the most secret places, the Marsican brown bear and the wolf. A triumph of fauna and flora: plateaus, waterfalls, lakes, beech forests, the Calderone, the southernmost glacier in Europe, Campo Imperatore, where the highest astronomical observatory in the old continent is located, the crater of Mount Sirente, the only one from a meteorite impact existing in Italy.

    Abruzzo National Park

    The Abruzzo National Park was founded in 1922 and is now the favorite place for a million visitors every year. In addition to the fauna and flora, its charm lies in the rugged orography of the mountains, the suggestive medieval villages, the necropolises and the sheep tracks. A network of visitor centers, nature trails and wildlife areas is available to tourists. In winter, the trails transform into snowshoe or ski itineraries.

    Majella National Park

    Rough and imposing, the Majella is steep and compact on the western side, extends high up in the Femmina Morta plateau, and is cut on the eastern side by the wildest valleys of Abruzzo. The Park also includes the Morrone bastion and the Pizi Mountains. Historical evidence includes prehistoric settlements, hermitages, shepherds' inscriptions, caves and forts used by bandits and soldiers, tholos huts built between fields and pastures.

    Gran Sasso National Park

    Established in 1991, it is located between Abruzzo (provinces of Teramo, L'Aquila and Pescara), Lazio (province of Rieti) and Marche (province of Ascoli Piceno). It extends over a predominantly mountainous territory, between the Gran Sasso d'Italia massif and the Monti della Laga mountain range. It is divided into 11 districts. The park offers visitors the possibility of interesting excursions, immersed in the beauty of nature and art: waterfalls, woods, ancient sheep tracks and Benedictine abbeys. Its ski resorts are very popular. Among the many species of flora and fauna present, we recall: black pines, firs, birches, dogwoods, gentians, beeches, field mushrooms, porcini mushrooms, Abruzzo chamois, red deer, roe deer, Apennine wolf, Marsican brown bear, golden eagle. The rocky massif of Gran Sasso includes the limestone walls of Corno Grande and Corno Piccolo, extends across the Campo Imperatore plateau and is surrounded on the northern side by magnificent beech forests. It is very popular with hikers, mountaineers and skiers. Less well-known are the Monti della Laga, spectacular in spring thanks to the abundance of water. Protected since 1995, the two massifs offer a magnificent journey into the nature and traditions of Abruzzo.

    Sirente-Velino Regional National Park

    The Sirente-Velino Regional Park is just over an hour from Rome and can be easily reached from all over Abruzzo. Velino and Sirente offer visitors the same attractions as the major massifs: rocky walls defend the highest peaks and screes are rich in rare botanical species. These mountains are also very popular with hikers. In addition to precious species and natural habitats, the Park preserves interesting traces of its past: archaeological areas, towers and castles, medieval villages, convents and rural churches are still well preserved today and can be encountered and admired by crossing the entire territory.

    What to see in Ascoli Piceno

    Ascoli Piceno is located in the southern part of the Marche, 28 km from the Adriatic Sea, and stands at 154 m above sea level, at the confluence of the Tronto River and the Castellano torrent. Surrounded by mountains such as the Montagna dell’Ascensione, Colle San Marco and the Montagna dei Fiori, it is nestled between two national parks: the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga to the south and the Monti Sibillini to the northwest.

    The city, founded according to tradition by the Sabines guided by a woodpecker sacred to Mars, is an authentic historical jewel. The historic center, entirely built in travertine, develops around Piazza del Popolo and Piazza Arringo, which host buildings such as the Palazzo dei Capitani, the Cathedral of Sant’Emidio and the Caffè Meletti.

    Ascoli is also known for its medieval monuments, the surviving towers, the Roman Bridge of Solestà and the Pia Fortress. Nearby, the fortress of Castel Trosino preserves the charm of an ancient Lombard settlement.

    What to see in Acquaviva Picena

    Acquaviva Picena, a medieval village in the province of Ascoli Piceno, stands on a hill overlooking the Tronto valley, a few kilometers from the Adriatic Sea and San Benedetto del Tronto. From its panoramic points you can admire Mount Vettore, Gran Sasso and Majella, offering breathtaking views.

    Of ancient origins, the village was inhabited by the Piceni and became an important urban center with the arrival of the Lombards. The symbol of the city is the majestic Acquaviva Fortress (13th-14th century), one of the best preserved fortresses in the Marche. Among other places of interest, the Church of San Nicolò, the Church of San Rocco and the convent of San Francesco stand out.

    Acquaviva hosts unmissable events such as Sponsalia, a historical reenactment of the marriage between Forasteria d’Acquaviva and Rainaldo di Brunforte, and the Acquaviva Comics Academy, dedicated to comics. A small jewel where history, art and traditions intertwine..
